Nintendo has officially made a move in the way of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament organization as they announced today that they'll be holding both the North America Open and The European Smash Ball Team Cup here in 2019.

The North American portion of this series will see the United States, Mexico and Canada divided up into four regions with three online tournaments (single elimination until top four) held in each region for a total of 12 online events.

These will be seven minute "Time" matches with items on the low setting and Smash Balls activated. Needless to say, this deviates quite a bit from the conditions most competitive Smashers are used to at major events.

Once the 12 winners have been decided, they'll face off at PAX East in Boston at the end of March. The winner of the final event at PAX will receive a collectable item with an estimated value of $500.

Head on over to Nintendo's info page for more details including a link to sign ups. You can view the trailer for the announcement below.
