Mortal Kombat 11's current character select screen revealed

If things don't change before release, it looks like we'll have a total of 25 starting characters

We're still reeling in our FINISH HIM animations from the impact of today's Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event, and though we're still processing all of the footage, characters, mechanics and amazing visuals, we're also intrigued by what wasn't there, namely 18 blank character select slots.

We knew only about Raiden and Scorpion before today, but got to see Baraka, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, Skarlet and the all new Geras during our first look at general gameplay.

It was amidst some exciting exhibition matches that the cameras captured footage of the character select screen, which currently features 25 total spaces.

We still have just over three months until the game's April 23rd release and the build we saw today is obviously not the final, so we wouldn't be too surprised to see changes to the character select organization between now and then. That said, it's certainly fun to start speculating what and who we might be seeing in the coming weeks.

We do know that Shao Kahn will nab one of the remaining 18 spaces as NetherRealm is offering him as a bonus for pre-ordering MK11. Also, the somewhat subtle Kabal hint likely implies the inclusion of the fast-footed former member of the Black Dragon criminal organization.

Beyond that, we're all guesses as to which other kombatants will be joining the latest and bloodiest dance. You can see the character select screen for yourself in the images here:
