Burying in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is something more players need to be aware of thanks to it being more prominent and buffs to the mechanic. In Super Smash Bros. 4, characters took half knockback while being launched from a buried state. They'll take 100% knockback in this latest entry.

Just like with grabs, you need to be able to mash effectively in order to escape. The duration of bury effects are based on the attack that that caused this status and your percentage.

The Beefy Smash Doods have released a video that details the mechanics behind the bury status in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They revealed that mashing the attack, jump, or shield buttons will reduce the duration more effectively than using the control stick.

Keep in mind that the game will only count vertical and horizontal directions for the control stick. Diagonals won't count as an input in this situation. Also be aware that the C-Stick does nothing while you are buried.

The Beefy Smash Doods also showcase some cool tricks and combos that are available to those that use characters with bury mechanics. At higher percentages, these setups will just lead to a KO.

As for the Inkling's roller, their bury is basically the best in the game. This is due to the ratio of the bury duration to recovery frames. Unfortunately, you're probably not going to be able to mash out of these kill setups at death percents.
