This fan-made Super Smash Bros. Ultimate opening combines it with the magic of Melee's for updated nostalgia that's better than the real thing

In the world of video games, it's hard to find an opening cinematic that's as iconic as Super Smash Bros. Melee's thanks to its masterful blending of different themes and series into one coherent and hype inducing intro.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's opening by comparison is viewed by many as a bit underwhelming when compared to the rest of the game's offerings and overall packaging as it largely reuses scenes from the World of Light opening mixed in with cutely scripted quick gameplay clips.

Artist and content creator Shadels recently set out to combine the two intros together using Ultimate's footage with Melee's music and themes to make his own "secret opening" for Smash fans, and the finished product definitely succeeds on its goal.

Shadels' new Melee opening for Smash Ultimate does use many of the same clips as the official cinematic though he rearranges parts to match Melee's theme along with different pieces of the character announcement trailers and the commercial to tie everything together.

Those familiar with Melee's opening will find many beats recreated here going from Bowser to Donkey Kong — now with Diddy and King K. Rool — to Samus vs. Ridley for some updated nostalgia followed by some newly made additions like Link's portrait standing in front of passing Breath of the Wild scenes instead of the Ocarina of time ones in the original.

There's tons of small nods and recreations in the unofficial intro that make it well worth the quick watch for any fans of the series wanting to get a bit of 2001 in their 2019 lives. You can find Shandels' Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Melee opening after the jump.
