Eight new combos and applications shown off for Ryu in Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition Season 4 by MDZ Jimmy

Ryu in Season 4 of Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition has received a number of buffs as he was considered to be one of the game's weaker characters in Season 2 and Season 3. Will these changes be enough in the long run? Time will tell.

MDZ Jimmy has recently created a video that highlights some of the new combos and applications that are now available thanks to the buffs to Ryu. For example, Ryu is now able to combo into his light Donkey Kick from light normals thanks to its startup being reduced from 16 to 10 frames.

Since the medium Donkey Kick had its startup reduced by 2 frames, it's now possible to special cancel into this attack from Ryu's crouching medium kick and actually have it connect. Notably, his cancel into heavy fireball also connects more reliably, but still won't hit at maximum range.

Jimmy even takes the time to highlight the new utility offered by Ryu's EX Hurricane Kick. Since the opponent is kept closer, Ryu is now given the opportunity to pressure on the opponent's knockdown.

Also since Ryu's EX Donkey Kick now causes the character to take a step forward, it means that its range has effectively increased. Ryu can land this combo extender from greater ranges.
