Mysterious Mortal Kombat HD remake prototype appears online, and it looks promising

The original Mortal Kombat titles were well ahead of their time for using real motion-captured actors for their video games, but the end result hasn't aged as well to many when compared to the better looking sprite-based titles at the time which has some fans looking to bring the classics into 2019.

Mortal Kombat 11 is set to launch in April and will get a full reveal later this month, but a new prototype for an HD remake of the MK title has surfaced online which looks to be fairly promising if the project continues development.

Content Creators Dynasty and MKA recently released new videos to their YouTube channels showing off this fan-made Mortal Kombat HD prototype build which was allegedly uploaded to a forum site suddenly and mysteriously. It's still unknown who the developers are according to both videos.

Currently, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are the only playable characters in the prototype featuring highly detailed 3D character models instead of the original actors though it still manages to look fairly convincing with their attacks, movements and even fatalities all recreated using new tech.

MKA believes that this demo uses assets from a cancelled Mortal Kombat fan project from the developers at Eyeballistic Games and is different than another recent prototype that uses MUGEN as a base since this one uses GameMaker.

Both players say that this Mortal Kombat HD remake looks, sounds, runs and plays well, but remember it does not appear to be associated with NetherRealm Studios at all meaning it could get shut down if the rights holders choose to track the developers down. You can take a look at the pair of videos after the jump plus a clip of the recreated spine ripping fatality below.
