Mortal Kombat 11's amplify move inputs simplified after a lot of fan feedback
Universal button activates now
Mortal Kombat 11 has seen a change in the way its amplified moves are performed. During today's Kombat Kast, the NetherRealm Studios crew took the time to point out this alteration in the combat system.
When the game was first showcased at the Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal event last month, fans noticed that in order to perform amplified moves — powered up versions of special moves that utilize meter — a unique command had to be input for each attack. Not only were they unique to characters, but they were also different depending on the move being used. Scorpion's Hellport, for example, required an up + 3 input to amplify while his Spear was amplified by simply hitting 2.
According to the Kombat Kast, now players can trigger amplified moves in Mortal Kombat 11 by simply hitting the interactable button.
"[To perform an] amplify move, you just hit Interact. You just hit the right bumper," Steve "16-Bit" Brownback, QA Analyst at NetherRealm, explained on stream. He goes on to say that it has been simplified from the initial reveal event build, and also noted there was a lot of fan feedback on the matter which led to the change.
Mortal Kombat 11's original way of performing amplified moves was tedious and added a layer of complexity that didn't need to be there. Having attended the reveal event, I can say that the game's amplify inputs were the only major gripe I had with the game.
Considering past Mortal Kombat and Injustice games utilized a system where enhanced moves (now amplified in MK11) were initiated with a universal, single button press, it is nice to see that NetherRealm has made this important change in Mortal Kombat 11.
