Mortal Kombat 11 is out in April, and with only 10 characters officially revealed at this time, there are still many announcements coming down the pike.

During yesterday's Kombat Kast — the first-ever for Mortal Kombat 11 — series co-creator Ed Boon shared a couple of interesting bits of information pertaining to the characters we can expect to see on the roster. Kicking things off, Boon stated that there will be several returning characters that fans might not have seen in a while.

"We have a long list of characters that we're going to be revealing that are kind of like, in that vein," Boon started. "Characters that you haven't seen maybe some in a long time, fan-favorites that are on the way."

Boon thinks of Baraka and Kabal as part of this string of returning fighters that will be joining Mortal Kombat 11's roster. These fan-favorites won't be limited to the launch roster, however, as he notes that Mortal Kombat 11's DLC fighters will be in the same vein and will surely impress.

"You're going to freak out when you see the DLC characters that we have," Boon said. "They're in the same vein. It's going to be awesome. "

Ed Boon recalls the reaction to the Kabal teaser at the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event, saying it was a big moment that generated a roar of energy from viewers. He says that they "have a number of those beats coming" down the line.

In terms of Mortal Kombat characters that might fit this description, longtime series mainstays such as Shang Tsung, Noob Saibot, and Rain are first to come to mind. All three were left out of Mortal Kombat X's playable cast, and I feel as though those three were the names I heard most when it came to character requests for that title.

On top of that, fighters such as Sindel, Sheeva, Nightwolf, Stryker, and Human Smoke all fall into the same category of characters that people love that haven't been playable since Mortal Kombat 9 back in 2011.

In terms of the amount of DLC characters we might see added to Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios' two most recent fighting games — Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 — featured nine and ten, respectively. This includes the pre-order bonus characters: Goro for MKX and Darkseid in Injustice 2.

We already know Shao Kahn will be Mortal Kombat 11's bonus, pre-order fighter, so we could potentially be seeing as many as nine additional characters added post-launch as DLC. Though, we'll obviously have to wait for official word to know the exact number.
