Sometimes the internet loses track of the line between a funny, in the moment joke and what would actually be cool in real life. Such an instance happened recently with the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 game and the Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme.

With MK11 en route, fans are excitedly speculating about roster selections as developers slowly but surely reveal more and more of the cast of characters. There also happens to be a meme floating about depicting Shaggy (from Scooby-Doo) as an all powerful, Dragon Ball-esque character.

This led to the internet creating a petition, that has since been signed over 340,000 times, asking for UI Shaggy to be a DLC character in MK11.

As he is prone to do, Creative Director, Ed Boon, teased the community a bit on Twitter about the whole ordeal. It was then brought up numerous times in the chat on today's Kombat Kast, so Community Manager, Tyler Lansdown, finally gave a definitive answer to the Shaggy question.

Lansdown stopped, looked directly into the camera, and crisply articulated, "Shaggy will never appear in Mortal Kombat. Dead meme." This was followed promptly by a Tweet from the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account that simply read "#RIPShaggy."

The good news is that now we'll have room for other (better) guest characters in MK11 like Ash Williams from Evil Dead, Pennywise the Dancing Clown from It or even Shaggy the Jamaican musician who was popular in the 90's.

For those of you saddened by this news, here's an image of "Hack and Slash Shaggy" in MK11 from Ed Boon:
