Kronika will reportedly not be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11

Don't expect Shao Kahn to show up in the story either

Mortal Kombat 11 just had its big reveal event in Brazil where Kano was confirmed to be playable in the fighter after first being spotted in the background of a stage, but we also appear to have received another confirmation about the title's roster.

IGN Brazil reports that Kronika, Mortal Kombat 11's primary antagonist, will in fact not be a playable character in the game and that her role will be primarily tied to the new Story Mode.

Speaking to Thiago Gomes, a scenario artist at NetherRealm Studios, he confirms Mortal Kombat's first female primary "villain" will not be selectable in matches and that she will be the only major antagonist in the story — so we shouldn't get our hopes up of seeing Shao Kahn return for another run at taking over the realms.

While final bosses like Shinnok and Brainiac were playable in more recent NetherRealm titles, this certainly isn't the first time a big bad has remained out of players' grasp for general use considering 2011's Mortal Kombat also didn't allow users to select Shao Kahn — unless they were playing a certain mode on the PlayStation Vita version.

Geras is also a newcomer in Mortal Kombat 11 and likely serves as the equivalent of Kronika's playable form since he is the Keeper of Time's powerful and loyal servant, who also happens to have temporal manipulation powers.

On top of Kano's reveal, we still have a number of fighters who have been teased or seen in the game's cutscenes / artwork that have yet to be officially unveiled including Kitana, Cassie Cage, Kabal, Liu Kang and Kung Lao among others.
