Seth revealed for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition
Seth has been unveiled to be the Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition's 40th character. Like Gill, Seth has served as a final boss character during a previous Street Fighter entry.
This Doctor Manhattan and Silver Surfer lookalike's gimmick is that he has able to copy the special techniques of other fighters that he comes across. In Street Fighter 4, Seth had access to Dhalsim's heavy punch (with long-ranged stretching included), Dhalsim's teleport, Zangief's command grab, Guile's (or Nash's) Sonic Boom, Chun-Li's head stomp kicks, Akuma's dive kick, the Shoto Dragon Punch, Urien's Chariot Tackle, and many more attacks.
This time, it appears that Seth has a male and a female form. It appears that Seth is capable of stealing the opponent's abilities, which adds additional moves to Seth's moveset.
Apparently, Seth's body did not make it through the events of Street Fighter 4 unscathed. As a result, Seth's biological brain was paired with the body of "Doll Unit Zero."
However, it looks like Seth's ability to copy opponents is locked behind his V-Skill 1, also known as the Tandem Engine. The opponent is sucked in, then blown away before giving Seth access to the other character's unique move.
It's stated that Seth will steal Turn Punch from Balrog, Lightning Legs from Chun-Li, Tiger Knee from Sagat, Double Knee Press from M. Bison, Flip Kick from Juri, and Sonic Boom from Guile. Unfortunately, Seth will only be able to perform the stolen special once before needing to steal it again, likely due to a corrupted memory.
V-Skill 2 is known as the Tandem Booster. Although Seth loses his ability to replicate the special moves, this technique allows Seth to juggle enemies for additional damage.
The first part of the V-Skill 2 has Seth dash forward from a full screen's distance. This dash can be cancelled by inputting the V-Skill command again or Seth can go into one of his special attacks, which gain additional effects with this.
For example, Seth's Hecatoncheires rapid punches becomes Hecatoncheires Glide. The Hecatoncheires Glide is safe on block and also leaves the opponent standing on hit for an ideal mix up opportunity.
"The Cruel Disaster pirouette kick becomes Spin Pendulum, a move that causes a knockdown and can be used for oki," according to Capcom Unity. It's also stated that Seth can transition into his Target Combo and standing heavy punch.
V-Trigger 1 is Tandem Ignition and it's a three bar V-Trigger. It's difficult to tell, but it look like Seth is granted the ability to cancel attacks (both grounded and airborne) into teleports. Through the usage of teleportion, combo extension is certainly possible.
Hecatoncheires transitions into a teleport Titanomachy gut punch. The Mad Cradle dragon punch has Seth teleport into a descending drill. The Cruel Disaster morphs into the Cyclone Disaster crescent kick – leaving the window open for a combo extension. And the Annihilate Sword dive kick shifts seamlessly into the Hell’s Gate upturned palm thrust.
Apparently, Seth's Tanden Ignition also allows him to transition into teleport followups after using moves stolen via V-Skill 1.
Seth's V-Trigger 2 has him generate a controllable projectile that can keep the opposition airborne as it travels. At the end of the attacks' duration, the orb will explode and launch the opponent for additional juggle opportunities.
This particular V-Trigger is one that costs two bars. The sphere itself can be positioned up to four times before it erupts.
Seth's Critical Art bears a lot of similarities to Seth's Ultra 1 in Street Fighter 4. This technique reaches nearly full screen and goes into a cinematic attack upon striking the opponent.
It's been revealed that Seth will become available as a playable fighter on February 14, 2020.
