The Game Awards 2019 program will be airing today at 5:30 p.m. PT / 8:30 p.m. ET. As we learned last year, this is an event that fighting game fans might want to pay attention to.

Back in 2018, Mortal Kombat 11 was actually first unveiled at this particular event. In addition to this, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's first Fighters Pass character was announced to be Joker. What could we possibly be in store for this year?

The nominees for The Game Awards' Fighting Game of the Year have already been revealed. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Jump Force, Dead or Alive 6, Mortal Kombat 11, and Samurai Shodown are all eligible to take the award this time.

Fans have also been speculating that there's a strong possibility that the fifth and final combatant of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass will be shown tonight. Do keep in mind that more characters beyond the Fighter Pass' five are still coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Of course, we'll likely be in store for some additional surprises too. Could there be a new fighting game that's just waiting to be announced at the event like with Mortal Kombat 11 during last year's event?
