A simple glance around an FGC major and the plethora of arcade sticks you'll inevitably see is a testament to how much fighting game players love and swear by the traditional arcade experience, but the times may very well be a changin'.

FGC Translated has shared a snippet from one CYG|Daigo's recent streams wherein The Beast talks about stick-less Hitbox controllers, and why he believes they are a more efficient choice for competitors who play Street Fighter 5.

Hitboxes look mostly like traditional arcade sticks but feature three "left," "right," and "up" buttons in the spot where you'd expect to find the joystick. The simple fact that it takes slightly less time to perform a button input as opposed to a stick movement goes a lot farther in gameplay than you may think.

Players have been experimenting with Hitboxes across multiple fighting titles for a few years now, and it's a fairly widely accepted truth in the FGC that those who put in the time to make the transition are indeed at something of an advantage.

In this particular sitting, Daigo speaks to the efficiency of HB when it comes specifically to Street Fighter 5. While many have pointed out the general buff this style of controller would grant to charge characters, the Japanese fighting game god feels it benefits command characters as well.

This reasoning stems from the emphasis SF5 places on grounded, neutral movement. He also goes into a brief comparison to pad controllers and the potential advantages they might grant.
