CD Projekt RED producer wants to see The Witcher 3's Geralt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Says he'd put the character 'everywhere' if he could

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is chest deep in the release of its five additional DLC characters right now. So far, Persona 5's Joker and Dragon Quest's Hero have joined the battle, and we know that the highly demanded Banjo-Kazooie will be the next in line to enter the ring sometime this Fall.

With two characters still to be revealed, the discussion about playable characters in Smash is as active as ever. Not only are fans talking about it, but game developers like CD Projekt RED — the minds behind The Witcher series — seem to have Smash DLC on the brain, and one of their producers recently shared his interest for seeing Geralt of Rivia as a playable fighter.

UNILAD recently caught up with CD Projekt RED Senior Producer Piotr Chrzanowski at a hands-on event for The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch.

To close out the interview, Chrzanowski was asked if we'd see main Witcher protagonist Geralt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now that the series is seeing a release on a Nintendo platform, it could technically qualify for such a crossover.

Unable to say anything in either direction, of course, Chrzanowski clearly expressed that he personally would love to see Geralt in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Chrzanowski went on to say that he would add Geralt into everything, if he were able to.

Chrzanowski and CD Projekt RED aren't the only game developers that want to see their characters join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Over the past couple of years, several companies have expressed their interest in collaborating with Nintendo's major crossover fighting title.

Last year, Blizzard senior producer Pete Stilwell said that he would love to have Diablo join the cast, if given the choice to add one of the company's characters into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Early in 2019, Jared Moldenhauer of Studio MDHR not only said he'd like to see Cuphead and Mugman as DLC, but said that they "belong" in the game.

The needle moved even further for Bethesda as back in September the company's own Pete Hines confirmed that Nintendo had spoken to them about Super Smash Bros., though no specific character was named. Rumors have claimed in the past that Doom Guy from Doom might be the most likely, though.

Even Marvel Comics' own Bill Rosemann said he'd want to see Hawkeye as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate if given the chance. He did also say that he isn't the one to make such decisions, though, making that crossover a bit more unlikely.

Of course, the biggest, most tangible example of other companies discussing their characters joining Smash Bros. is none other than Head of Xbox Phil Spencer. On numerous occasions, Spencer said that he was on board with allowing Banjo-Kazooie to become a playable character, and despite such a prospect being seemingly impossible, it actually happened.

So what does this all mean for The Witcher's Geralt? Well, at the end of the day there's no way of knowing who Nintendo has selected to be the remaining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters. However, things that nobody ever thought would actually happen have already happened with the game, and with CD Projekt RED being open to a crossover... who knows?

It was announced at Gamescom 2019 that The Witcher 3 will be seeing an October 15th release date on Nintendo Switch.
