Mortal Kombat has long been one of the most valuable video game properties owned by Midway and then Warner Bros. which has continued all the way into 2019 with the release of the 11th mainline game in the franchise.

The NPD Group released their video game sales rankings for July 2019 where Madden 20 unsurprisingly came out on top though Mortal Kombat 11 still remains the best-selling game of the year thus far in the United States.

While NetherRealm Studios' latest title slipped down to the number eight slot overall for the month of July, MK11's first two months on top in April and May have cemented its place on the overall charts likely until some bigger games like Call of Duty release this fall.

Mortal Kombat 11 is also now the second best selling game in the franchise overall behind MKX which sold over 10 million copies during its lifespan though WB has yet to say just how much the new title has sold through.

After three months on the market, Mortal Kombat 11 also became the fifth top selling fighting game of all time in the United States according to NPD's Mat Piscatella now only behind MKX and three Super Smash Bros. titles though they weren't specified — they are likely Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, however.

Impressively, Smash Ultimate continues to track high even above MK11 in the past month at seventh place for July. You can check out the full NPD top 10 rankings below plus the group's video breakdown.
