'It looks so far ahead of other fighting game engines' - VesperArcade breaks down, analyzes, and makes predictions from the new Guilty Gear trailer

Stage transitions, a new character, amazing graphics, and a 2020 release

The brand new Guilty Gear game trailer dropped at EVO this year and immediately had fighting game fans drooling for the next installment in the GG franchise.

Vesper Arcade recently welcomed special guest Killey to join him for an analysis, breakdown, and speculation video on what we're seeing, thinking, and might expect from this 2020 title.

The trailer itself contains hardly more than a minute's worth of footage as Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske grab their respective weapons and prepare to do battle atop the rim of a vast canyon. A little "post-credits" sequence at the end reveals a new fighter the series has never seen before.

The visuals here continue to raise the bar, (something Arc System Works has developed a pattern of doing this with such titles as the previous Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ) for animated fighting games.

Vepser and Killey take some time to appreciate the presentation before moving on to comment and speculate on what looks to be a stage transition amidst the action. They also touch on the brand new character, who dons a mechanical helmet that builds itself around his head on his command.

We can turn back to an interview with creator, Daisuke Ishiwatari, from early in 2018 for a little more information. We do know that developers are planning to simplify the experience by keeping the number of mechanics and systems relatively low.

"One thing that we have to do in the next installment is to reduce the number of systems; it's too complicated for everyone. You can expect that in the next game," said Ishiwatari in that interview.
