Street Fighter 5 finally surpasses its predecessor's sales numbers... unless you count in all of Street Fighter 4's expansions of course

SF5 becomes Capcom's third best-selling single fighter release

Capcom has certainly seen an uptick in success over the past two years with titles like Monster Hunter World along with Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, but Street Fighter 5 is still managing to hold its own as well.

Street Fighter 5 has now sold over 3.7 million copies as of June 30, 2019 according to Capcom's updated Platinum Titles rankings placing it ahead of Street Fighter 4's base sales as well as making it the company's 14th best-selling single release — plus potentially its second top-seller of the quarter as a whole.

This means that SF5 managed to sell an additional 600,000 units in three months during the fiscal quarter to surpass vanilla Street Fighter 4's sales of 3.4 million copies on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 though that doesn't include the numbers for Super Street Fighter 4, Arcade Edition, 3D or Ultra — each of which sold over 1 million in their own rights meaning the 4 series in total has sold over 9 million units.

That 600,000 unit increase is the second largest behind Monster Hunter World at 700,000 potentially making it Capcom's runner-up top selling game of the whole quarter even ahead of Resident Evil 2 and DMC 5 — though this only includes titles that have sold over 1 million in total.

Though Capcom appeared to consider the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection a success in their eyes, the compilation has still yet to cross the 1 million mark a year after it launched. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's numbers also have not increased past its previous 1.3 million units.

These new numbers also keep Street Fighter as the third best selling franchise for Capcom at 43 million games sold behind Monster Hunter at 55 million and Resident Evil at a crazy 92 million.

All of these new sales also came at a time when Street Fighter 5 had not received any new content outside of costumes, so it'll be interesting to see how the next two quarters of the year play out now that Capcom has been adding new characters to the game again. You can check out an updated breakdown of the best-selling Capcom fighters below.
