The first Mortal Kombat film and especially Mortal Kombat: Annihilation are not cinematic masterpieces by any stretch, but they still hold a special place in many fans' hearts with some iconic lines and scenes that have carried on over 20 years since they first released.

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. appear to be fully and finally embracing their legacy with these films with multiple references and characters popping up in Mortal Kombat 11 and its marketing thus far including a new ad in France featuring one Christopher Lambert.

Lambert played Raiden in the original Mortal Kombat movie in the 90's where his long-haired take on the god of thunder stuck out to many compared to his fighting game counterpart, and he's returned 22 years later to make a fun little cameo for the newest title.

The French commercial begins with Jeremy Nadeau popping in Mortal Kombat 11 where he promptly gets beaten by a mystery Raiden player which makes him exclaim "how come you're so good with this character? The game just came out," according to JustSlaythe on Twitter.

The shot then pans over to Lambert sitting on the couch next to him where he replies "we've got history him and I" to which he then does his iconic laugh from the movie and apologizes.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the actor who portrayed Shang Tsung in the first film, is reprising his role in Mortal Kombat 11 which is an exciting prospect for the game's first DLC character plus the recent launch trailer used the classic techno theme to really crank up the nostalgia in a game built around time travel and characters meeting their past selves. It's all quite fitting really.
