Shao Kahn gameplay trailer released for Mortal Kombat 11
Does he bring those skulls with him wherever he goes?
Shao Kahn is one of the most iconic villains in fighting game history after first popping up in Mortal Kombat 2 as the ruler of Outworld, and despite his death and absence in MKX, the tyrant has returned once again.
We're less than a week away from Mortal Kombat 11's official launch, and NetherRealm Studios has decided to gift us with a brand new trailer for Shao Kahn, who serves as the pre-order bonus DLC character this time around.
Making a grand an entrance as ever, the hammer-wielding conqueror walks through the stage crushing a collection of skulls under his feet before taunting Raiden for his compassion for others.
Summoning both his iconic hammer and spear at will, Shao Kahn features all of his classic and brutal moves like the shoulder tackle and weapon tosses, but his range of attacks has been way more fleshed out moving from mostly a boss character to a standard playable one.
The mad emperor is certainly one for tradition considering the trailer shows that he kept his old laughing and "You suck!" taunts though we don't yet know if they'll be tied into his gameplay with buffs or anything yet — my bet is they'll be tied to at least one of the Crushing Blow requirements.
Shao Kahn's Fatal Blow has him slice up his opponent with the spear before brutally impaling them to the ground and slamming the opposition with the logo-engraved hammer. For his initial Fatality, the skull-faced king golf club swings his hammer through Raiden's head which makes it rocket out the backside of his body.
If nothing up until this point has made you go out and pre-order Mortal Kombat 11 and yet you still want to play as Shao Kahn, you'll need to pay up $5.99 after the game launches on April 23. He also will not be part of the Kombat Pack featuring six new characters the first of which being another classic MK boss, Shang Tsung.
