Probably a bit later than you hoped, but plenty of time to get hyped

Nintendo dropped quite the surprise on everyone last night by revealing Joker's gameplay and the contents of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Spring update with absolutely zero warning, and we won't need to wait too much longer to try it out for ourselves.

The exact maintenance period for the Version 3.0.0 patch for Smash Ultimate has been confirmed, and players in North America will likely have time to eat dinner and settle in for the night before everything becomes available.

The SSBUBot, which receives its data directly from Nintendo's servers, got their hands on the Pop-up News notification for the new update that lists its start time as today, April 17, at 8 p.m. CDT / 6 p.m. PDT.

At this time, players around the world will be able to access Persona 5's Joker as the new character, the new Mementos stage, the return of Stage Builder and any currently unannounced balance changes, but we may need to wait to take them online.

The maintenance period is listed elsewhere to last until around 9:30 p.m. CDT / 7:30 p.m. PDT, so online servers will likely be down at that time as Nintendo prepares for the flood of people looking to try out everything new and shiny.

A built-in video editor will also be added with the Ver. 3.0.0 update that will allow players to put together clips, highlights and tutorials from within the game itself that can then be posted directly online for the world to see.

Nintendo's online app for the Switch will also be receiving an upgrade by adding in Smash World which will feature functionality for sharing and downloading created stages, Mii Fighters and organized video clips from one location directly onto the console.

For those who haven't purchased him yet, Joker will cost $5.99 and include his transforming Mementos stage, battle music and Classic Mode run though he's also part of the Fighters Pass for $24.99. More Mii Fighter costumes will also be available to buy separately including new crossover outfits featuring Persona 5, Persona 4, Persona 3 and Sonic the Hedgehog.

In case you somehow missed all the action last night, we've included all of the new screenshots and videos of everything coming to Smash Ultimate today below.
