Some more interesting information was revealed during Game Informer's 166 Rapid-Fire Questions session with Ed Boon. Last time, we learned that Mortal Kombat 11 will feature multiple endings just like Injustice 2.

One of the questions had Ed Boon talk about the highest selling game that NetherRealm has created so far. Apparently, Mortal Kombat X has sold nearly 11 million units.

"What is your best selling game of all time?" This was the question asked by Game Informer.

"Mortal Kombat X," responded Boon. "We sold almost 11 million copies."

For a fighting game, these are extremely impressive numbers. 2.9 million units are the reported sales for Street Fighter 5 so far. Meanwhile, we learned that Tekken 7 has sold over 3.6 million copies and Dragon Ball FighterZ has shipped over 4 million copies.

Of course, Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate managed to sell 12 million units in just three weeks after launch, but that series is a different beast altogether.

Interestingly enough, all these other titles tend to be popular in Japan. The Mortal Kombat franchise, however, doesn't typically have this type of popularity. This means that it's likely that these 11 million copies mostly came from the American and European regions of the world.

It's also worth noting that Mortal Kombat X wasn't NetherRealm Studio's most recent title. Injustice 2 still ended up being reported as the highest-grossing game of Q2 of 2017.

Will Mortal Kombat 11 be able to surpass Mortal Kombat X in terms of sales? It seems like a plausible scenario considering how NetherRealm continues to ramp up production values after every title.

Notably, many characters are returning despite being previously absent due to fan demand. Characters like Baraka and Skarlet haven't been playable since Mortal Kombat 9.
