Ed Boon reveals Mortal Kombat 11 will feature multiple endings, a being above the Elder Gods as the villain, and additional story mode details

Previously, we learned that Ed Boon has had some sort of communication with Marvel about potentially making a fighting game. This information came about during Game Informer's 166 Rapid-Fire Questions segment.

During this same segment, other details were revealed regarding Mortal Kombat 11's story mode. For one, quick time events will be absent this time around.

"Are there quick time events in Mortal Kombat 11's story," asked Game Informer. "No there is not," responded Ed Boon.

Apparently this time, NetherRealm Studios "didn't have time to do them." This was a feature that appeared in Injustice and Mortal Kombat X.

Like Injustice 2, there will be alternate endings. Notably, Injustice 2 ended with either Batman exiling Superman or Superman enslaving Batman. We likely won't know the "canonical ending" until the next entry in the series.

Game Informer inquired, "More than three [alternate endings]?" A smirking Boon responded with "I can't mention that."

It was also stated that there will not be a Mortal Kombat tournament featured during Mortal Kombat 11's story mode. This hasn't been a thing since Mortal Kombat 9 during the retelling of the events of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2.

Boon also declared that the story mode's cutscenes will span for two and a half hours. The length is about the same as Mortal Kombat X or "maybe a little longer."

Originally, the main villain of the game was going to be named something like "Kroniko." The name was changed to Kronika when NetherRealm decided to make the villain a female.

Finally, it was also stated that Kronika is a being that's above even the Elder Gods — like Cetrion.

Remember that Kronika will not be playable in Mortal Kombat 11. She is strictly a NPC, just like Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 9 and Corrupted Shinnok in Mortal Kombat X.

We should probably expect a very difficult boss fight at the very end.
