Early last week SNK wowed the fighting game community with their big reveal of a new fighting title called "Samurai Spirits." As one might expect based on the name, this is a return to the classic, weapons-based fighter (known as "Samurai Shodown" in the west) but with a new installment to fit modern-day fighting games.

The latest entry in the franchise brings back legacy character such as Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Jubei Yagyu, Galford D. Weiler and Earthquake all depicted in a beautiful new art style with big cinematic attacks at their disposal that retain the blood and gore of previous titles in the series. Samurai Spirits' initial announcement trailer also featured a piece of artwork that seemed to reveal even more characters, though we haven't seen them fully unveiled just yet.

As some are already aware, there is a distinction in what the series is called between Japan and the west. In Japan, the franchise is titled "Samurai Spirits" and in the west it's called "Samurai Shodown."

So far, everything official we've seen of this new entry has been labeled Samurai Spirits, leaving many wondering if the game will take on the Shodown name in the U.S.

EventHubs reached out to SNK and were given confirmation that the game will indeed be called Samurai Shodown in the United States.

Here is the official description of the game from the press release.
