Raphael announced for Soul Calibur 6

Tokyo Game Show has yet to officially begin though it looks as though the new announcements and reveals have already begun with a new character trailer for one of next month's biggest releases.

Bandai Namco revealed Raphael Sorel as the latest playable character for Soul Calibur 6 tonight after footage originally leaked of the character as well as Cervantes a few weeks ago at an event in Australia.

The master fencer's design takes many motifs from his previous incarnations to create a whole new look for the fighter incorporating his mask which has appeared in other titles with a partial cape and noble-style clothing leaving him quick on his feet.

Raphael was first introduced in Soul Calibur 2 over 15 years ago and has appeared in every mainline title since wielding his signature stabbing rapier and kick-heavy gameplay styles — he even still has the kinda goofy "look away stab" technique from previous games.

He still appears to revolve around quick poking strikes with his rapier including a rapid volley of stabs along with a variety of spinning kicks and stomps to keep his opponents guessing on guard.

In Soul Calibur 3, Raphael transforms into a vampire-like malfested due to Soul Edge meaning we likely won't see him use those powers in 6, but maybe that will be part of his new story progression. You can get a better look at the future blood sucker in the gallery below and check out Raphael's gameplay reveal trailer after the jump.
