Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stage count declared to be 108 rather than 103 in Japanese magazine

Six blank spots were sitting at the bottom of the stage list menu when we last saw it

The sheer volume of content contained within Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is pretty mind boggling. We already have the confirmation of at least 72 characters — counting Echo Fighters separately, Pokémon Trainer as one character, and Mii Fighters separately — and 103 stages.

During the Nintendo Direct that aired back in August, Masahiro Sakurai was heard saying that "now the total of stages is 103." There have been different interpretations as to whether or not Sakurai was specifically stating that 103 would be the final stage count at launch.

According to Source Gaming, the most recent issue of Coro Coro in Japan lists that the total number of stages to be 108 rather than 103. It is currently unknown if this was a mistake, a leak, or the intentional release of new information.

The last Super Smash Bros. Ultimate focused Direct did show us all 103 stages in the menu, while random select occupied the very first slot. Curiously, there were a total of six blank spots that sat at the very bottom.

Source Gaming has noted that Sakurai has declared the stage count to be 103 in a previous Famitsu column. It sounds as though five of those six slots that sit at the bottom can be filled with stages while the final position can be potentially reserved for a DLC page.

Outside of this unique stage count, the rest of the information about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is supposedly just a review of August's Direct. There's probably no mention of Isabelle — Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's latest newcomer as of September 13 — within Coro Coro.
