GameCube controllers can be used with the Nintendo Switch while in its handheld mode — here's how to do it

This will no doubt be very useful for the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Since Super Smash Bros. Melee, the GameCube controller has been the preferred method of controlling the onscreen characters for most players. It's no wonder that Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate kept bringing back this device that was originally intended for a console that was created 17 years ago.

Super Smash Bros. Bros. 4 was the first iteration that allowed players to play the game on the go thanks to the 3DS version. The possibilities of playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate while the Nintendo Switch is in its handheld mode is a very intriguing concept.

Ideally, everyone will probably want to use the GameCube controllers even when the Switch is not docked. Thanks to ColdBrew on Twitter, we know that this is possible.

At the very bottom of the Nintendo Switch, you can plug in a USB Type-C to USB adapter to the console. From here, you can simply plug in your GameCube controller adapter for some four player action.

Unfortunately, doing this will mean you can't utilize the Nintendo Switch's stand feature. This problem can be solved with an adjustable charging stand for the Nintendo Switch.

You'll then be able to plug in the USB Type-C to USB adapter to the side of the adjustable charging stand without sacrificing the Nintendo Switch's ability to stand while in handheld mode. Very nifty!
