There's a strong chance Fire Emblem's Black Knight will be playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Echo Fighter of Ike

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still about a month and a half away from releasing in December, so time is slowly winding down for new characters still waiting to be announced for this already massive roster.

Animal Crossing's Isabelle was the last character announced for the title during the last Nintendo Direct, and while Director Masahiro Saukurai said that we should expect fewer announcements going forward, there are still certainly more to come.

One character who many have likely never thought of as a potential fighter is the mysterious Black Knight from the Fire Emblem series, yet he actually has some tangible evidence to point towards his inclusion as one of the final warriors to come to Smash Ultimate.

His moveset would likely make him an Echo Fighter of Ike for some obvious reasons we'll get into, and his inclusion would make him the first Fire Emblem villain to make it into Super Smash Bros.

For the evidence pointing towards his inclusion, there was a Fire Emblem stage first added to Super Smash Bros. Brawl named 'Castle Siege' that has since appeared in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and is in Smash Ultimate. This stage transitions between three sub-sections with the second being the castle's throne room.

A black armored general with a red cape can be seen sitting on the throne in the background of the stage in both Brawl and Smash 4 that most players probably haven't noticed, and the stage was actually changed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to have an entirely different character / soldier sitting on the throne possibly wearing red armor.

This general is not an exact match to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance / Radiant Dawn Black Knight, as the throne room general appears to have gold trimmed armor instead of Black Knight's more silver accents. Castle Siege is also not directly based on the FE games that Ike hails from, but it begs the question why would Nintendo change the background character in Smash Ultimate if they didn't need to?

A previous absence from other other Smash titles has also recently given away another character reveal when players of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate demo noticed that Dark Samus was no longer appearing in Assist Trophies. 'She' was later announced during the last Super Smash Bros. Direct as an Echo Fighter of Samus.

Black Knight was also released as a DLC Mii Fighter outfit in Super Smash Bros. 4 which points to the character's popularity and another good indicator of his chances at making it into the game.

Certainly, not every character that received a Mii Fighter outfit has made it into Ultimate, but Chrom, King K. Rool, Isabelle and Splatoon's Inklings also received DLC costumes in Smash 4 — all of whom are now playable.

He could also tie into Smash Ultimate's trend of announcing a larger than normal amount of villains compared to previous titles with Ridley, K. Rool and Dark Samus joining the roster which could be part of the game's rumored 'Spirits Mode.'

Black Knight shares very strong ties with Ike, as they were both trained by Ike's father, Greil, and wield similar blades. This gives them a straight line of logic for making him an Echo Fighter of Ike that would probably be a bit slower and hit harder / have more range.

Alondite is the name of Black Knight's sword and is said to be a sibling of Ike's Ragnell essentially appearing as silver instead of gold.

There's not much time left to announce new characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so we should know in the very near future if Black Knight does indeed make it into the game as Fire Emblem's first antagonistic representative — though I'm sure many of you are already groaning at the thought of another sword-wielding Fire Emblem character.
