Rumor: The Nintendo 64 Classic might have been leaked

Suspiciously, Nintendo recently filed a trademark for 'N64' and listed the manuals for 19 Nintendo 64 games on their website

The NES Classic and the SNES Classic were both huge successes for Nintendo. So much so that it would be surprising if they were to just stop there in terms of releasing these "classic" mini consoles.

There's no doubt that another business opportunity is sitting in front of Nintendo. For a long time now, fans have been hoping that the rumors about a supposed "Nintendo 64 Classic" being in development were true.

Supposedly, Nacho on Twitter was provided with images from an unnamed contact of such an item. Given, not everything we hear or see on the internet has been 100% accurate. People have a tendency to lie when they can act anonymously.

Users in a Reddit thread have expressed some concerns in regards to the legitimacy of the images. For one, there is worry that the old school ports cover extends too far, which might make it too fragile.

Notably, Nintendo recently listed the manuals for 19 Nintendo 64 games — like Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Star Fox 64, Pokémon Snap, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and many more — on their website without any explanation. While it's possible they might be planning for some sort of implementation with the Nintendo Switch's online service, this could potentially be in preparation for a Nintendo 64 Classic announcement.

Unfortunately, no fighting games were listed among these 19 titles. Not even Super Smash Bros. 64. Still, the NES and SNES Classics were both prone to having games adding via the modding community.

Back in May, Nintendo apparently filed a trademark application for 'N64' in Japan for "TV Game Machines, TV Game Programs, Downloadable Digital Programs, ROM cartridges, Smartphone use Program Storage Media and more." Could the stars be aligning for this to actually happen?

As always, it's important to take any rumor or leak with a grain of salt. Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, we have no way to confirm if this is real or not.
