This weekend may tease a new Street Fighter 5 DLC character, here's why it could be Rose, and when it's likely to happen

History and hints add up to Rose likely being a Season 4 DLC character

If history is a clear indicator, we'll be seeing a hint at who the initial Season 4 DLC character will be for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, this weekend at Red Bull Conquest.

Rose is my personal favorite fighting game character of all time โ€” and even with admittedly a ton of bias โ€” I still think the (tarot) deck is stacked in her favor over most other characters.

There have been a ton of allusions and hints to Rose, even before X-Kira revealed what he was able to data-mine. As such, I wanted to go back and recap as much as I could find from the various plot threads Capcom has released.

While there's nothing absolutely conclusive that states Rose will be the first DLC Season 4 character, or that she's a 100% lock to begin with, there's quite a bit out there that has me excited and thinking she's the likeliest candidate at this time.

Let's explore why.

The Queen of Hearts

I had never really heard Rose referred to as a "queen" before, and was a bit surprised to see that is a common association with her in some circles.

The main piece of evidence I found comes from Nash's story mode intro (shown below), where Rose is seen on a queen of hearts playing card. It's a small cameo, but the biggest reference I could find in Street Fighter 5 itself.

For those of you who do not know, our traditional deck of 52 playing cards is actually derived from a tarot deck, with Clubs being Wands, Hearts transitioning from Cups, Spades were Swords and finally Diamonds from Coins.

Lastly, Capcom posted on social media today, for Menat's birthday, making reference to a "queen" again.

Tarot card hints

On Rose's official CFN profile that Capcom posted, it states that "her speciality is tarot."

For Street Fighter's 30th anniversary, an official set of tarot cards were released just a few weeks ago. They feature all playable cast members, except for Rose, Rolento, Oro, Elena, and C. Viper, many of whom are among the rumored characters for Season 4.

Furthermore, during G's story mode, Rose throws a tarot card at the screen โ€” and it's the exact one shown in the artwork Capcom produced.

Data-miner X-Kira shared evidence that he found a tarot card move, and also dropped a cryptic hint about queens, which many speculate is an allusion to Rose, based on the above factors.

Story mode hints

Menat's original mission in her story mode is to go around telling everyone Rose's prophecy.

During G's story mode, it's revealed that Rose told G's fortune, and brought him up as The Fool card. Menat is unsure what this means, and goes to question him, and is soundly beaten in a fight.

She later asks Rose to step in and avenge her for losing so badly, which would give Rose yet another reason to step in to the limelight.

When should I expect something to happen?

Based on the past two years, Capcom has teased a reveal for Capcom Cup at the North American finals for the CPT, hosted by Red Bull.

Fans are expecting something to go down at this year's Red Bull Conquest, which starts this weekend, Nov. 17, Saturday, and ends on Sunday.

Both Akuma and Sakura were hinted at after the grand finals, so if Capcom follows suit, you'll want to tune in then.
