We've come a long way as video game players from the golden age of fighting games in the arcades where the arcade owners would have to purchase new boards or entirely new cabs for the ability to play the newest version of a certain game.

The retail version of Injustice 2 Legendary Edition releases in stores today, but NetherRealm Studios also decided to launch the patch bringing the core game's content up to a more legendary state last week on March 22.

The retail release contains the game along with all previously released characters including Darkseid, Red Hood, Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles as well as the premiere skins found in the previous Ultimate Edition containing Power Girl, John Stewart, Reverse-Flash, Grid and Black Lightning each with unique looks, voices, and dialogue.

Current owners of Injustice 2 need only update their games to get access to the new Legendary Edition content. The most notable additions are new gear for every character in the game, an increase in level cap from 20 to 30, a new augment slot, a new tutorial mode and new Legendary Multiverse towers to level up and earn new gear for the DLC characters.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam now along with its mobile version.

You can check out the move list for every character in the game here as well as our tier list for the game, and you can view the launch trailer after the jump below along with the Legendary patch notes.
