The Capcom Pro Tour and Tekken World Tour both kick off this weekend - here's what's waiting at Final Round in a few days

One of the biggest tournaments of the year will be a big deal not only for Street Fighter and Tekken, but several other games as well

We've had a few months now without any tournament circuits going on, and while there've still been events happening, it's been quiet for fighting game community standards.

That's all coming to an end now, though, as both the Capcom Pro Tour and Tekken World Tour are going to be kicking off at Final Round 2018 this weekend.

Not only is it kicking off both tours, but it's a Premier event for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition and a Master event for Tekken 7, so stakes are huge right out of the gate.

With such a lucrative opportunity, you can bet all manner of top players will be showing up to try and get that optimal start to the year's season, and we're going to list some of the biggest ones aiming to show up.

Of course, that's not all. Dragon Ball FighterZ is at the event and has an absolute crazy amount of registrants, and a bunch of other fighting games will be played, too.

For the full rundown, continue right below.

Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition — CPT Premier Event

Number of entrants: 373
Notable players: Infiltration, FOX|Tokido, Rise|MenaRD, CYG|Daigo, Punk, NuckleDu, DNG|Itabashi Zangief, GGP|Kazunoko, NVD|Phenom, RZR|Xian
Streamed days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

The Capcom Pro Tour is back for yet another year, and obviously all of the beasts are going to be out for blood.

Last year, RZR|Xian made his mark with Ibuki at this event and took an early lead in the CPT standings, eventually earning him a spot at Capcom Cup after a few more tournament performances, and with the huge boost in points from first places this year, it seems fair to assume that whoever wins this year has a locked spot for Capcom Cup right off the bat.

Obviously, the stakes are high when you can solidify your Capcom Cup spot 8 months before the event, and we've got all kinds of scary players from across the entire world to try and get that honor.

Infiltration is showing up fresh off of his EVO Japan 2018 victory, and last year's EVO winner FOX|Tokido will also be showing up with his demonic Akuma, and obviously the legendary CYG|Daigo will be participating as well. As earlier mention, last year's champion RZR|Xian will be there, and tons of other top-level players from the Asia region, such as DNG|Itabashi Zangief and GGP|Kazunoko will be there.

Of course, the Americans will want to defend their home turf, and the vast majority of participating players are natives. Capcom Cup 2016 champion NuckleDu and EVO 2017 runner-up Punk will be leading the charge, though there'll obviously be many, many more strong U.S. players wanting to prove themselves as well.

As far as the European region goes, attendance is not amazingly high, but at the very least NVD|Phenom is coming to fight, and we've all seen the performances he can put on.

For my personal interest, though, I'm quite excited to see that the full Atlas Bear team will be in attendance - AB|Poongko, AB|StormKubo, AB|Kichipa-mu and AB|Gunfight are all going to be there representing their unique characters, so hopefully they'll be able to make some damage.

Tekken 7 — TWT Master Event

Number of entrants: 297
Notable names: FOX|JDCR, FOX|Saint, ROX|Chanel, ROX|Knee, RB|Anakin, PG|Speedkicks, TDG|Fergus, CKT|Blackbeard, Circa|JoeyFury, Fursan|LowHigh
Streamed days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

To nobody's surprise, the Tekken World Tour is back again this year, and in 2018 we'll be able to see it go throughout the entire year, which wasn't possible last year with the game only releasing come June.

In 2018, it's promising to see the Tekken World Tour start off with a huge bang, and a ton of Korean master-level players will be joining the fray. Besides the obvious two, FOX|JDCR and FOX|Saint, you can look forward to seeing players like ROX|Chanel, ROX|Knee, Fursan|LowHigh, Dimeback, Jeondding and Kkokkoma.

Unfortunately, the event overlaps with a team tournament in Japan, so there will be no presence of Team Yamasa or much of any Japanese Tekken players at all.

Of course, Americans will be showing up for their home turf, with players like PG|Speedkicks, RB|Anakin, Circa|JoeyFury, Shadow20z, Lil Majin, VictimOfRitual and WayGamble and more showing up to put their skills to the test.

We're also going to be lucky enough to see TDG|Fergus from Ireland, CKT|Blackbeard from Denmark, Gen1us from France and El Negro from Venezuela competing, so there's a lot of potential for a multinational top 8 at this year's first Master Event.

As one of the main games at the event, there'll be matches streamed practically across the entire event duration, so make sure not to miss any of it.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Number of entrants: 314
A few notable players: FOX|SonicFox, EG|NYChrisG, CO|Go1, cR|Dekillsage, Fame96
Streamed days: Saturday, Sunday (Exhibition stream on Friday)

We've only really had one big event to see Dragon Ball FighterZ in action at a high level so far, back at Winter Brawl last month.

Most of the top placers from that time are present at Final Round as well, and we have some international competition coming in.

On top of that, the exhibition match that's had quite the bit of buildup between the two players who are looking like the top dogs of their respective regions at the moment will in fact be taking place on the event's first day, that being the first-to-10 set between FOX|SonicFox and CO|Go1, which you can find more details about here.

With the game being so new, it's still hard to judge exactly what we're going to be in for, but with almost the exact same amount of entrants that Winter Brawl had, let's hope it manages to reach the same levels of hype as well.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Number of entrants: 73
A few notable players: EG|NYChrisG, FOX|Justin Wong, Punk, cR|Dekillsage, Rise|Richard Nguyen
Streamed days: Friday, Sunday (Battle Royale stream on Saturday)

While it might be snubbed from a pro tour treatment, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is still alive where it matters, namely the hearts of its players.

Practically all of the top performers in the game are going to be playing at Final Round, so if this game tickles your fancy you've got a ton to look forward to.

EG|NYChrisG, as the runner-up of last year's Battle of the Stones tournament, as well as one of the most legendary players in the game's predecessor, is looking like the clear favorite, but looking at the rest of the entrants it's clear that he has his work cut out for him.

Injustice 2

Number of entrants: 66
A few notable players: FOX|SonicFox, Circa|ForeverKing, F3|DR Gross, DF|Grr, PG|Kitana Prime
Streamed days: Saturday, Sunday

While there's been no news of a Injustice 2 Pro Series this year as of yet, that's not stopping the players from showing up and representing.

With top performers from last year's league play FOX|SonicFox, Circa|ForeverKing and F3|DR Gross all present, including a bunch of other players who have had top placings throughout 2017, there's going to be a lot of hype matches going down

In addition, we now have the full (as far as we know) DLC roster in the game as well, and with FOX|SonicFox leading the charge, you can bet we're going to see some heroes in a half-shell popping off. Cowabunga!

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Number of entrants: 51
A few notable players: GGP|Kazunoko, WN|LostSoul, TheBeautifulDude, TDQ|Zenzen, TSD|Tenpai
Streamed days: Saturday, Sunday

Though he tends to be more recognized for his Street Fighter performances, GGP|Kazunoko is a true Guilty Gear master, and most of the time when he shows up to play in the U.S.A. he ends up taking it home, unless he gets stopped by his fellow native CO|Dogura who curiously seems to not have entered Guilty Gear at all this time around.

However, with WN|LostSoul present at the event, who may well be the strongest player in the American region right now, it's definitely up for grabs and we're bound to see some really good sets between these two titans.

That is of course assuming they don't get upset themselves along the way. Just because they're looking like the favorites, that doesn't mean they won't have to put in the work to power through the rest of the good players who are present.

Other games

Numerous other games are also being played at the event and will have notable players attending, and while they don't have Sunday finals like the titles above (except Pokkén Tournament DX), they're still very important parts of the event.

While I won't be doing detailed writeups for each of these games, you can find the full details for entrants and scheduling below, along with a few notable names you'll hopefully see during the tournament.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Number of entrants: 36
A few notable players: Method|Flux, Fame96, 482|Doza
