Capcom's approval of Ridley seemingly killing Mega Man in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer is epic and hilarious

This doesn't make Mega Man look 'weak,' but it does make me want to destroy a certain overgrown lizard online with the Super Fighting Robot

During Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation, it was revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would see the return of every character that's ever been playable in the series. Among these fighters included the likes of Mario and Capcom's Mega Man.

At the very end of the presentation, we got a particular big reveal. Some might have even said that it was... too big to be possible. For the first time ever, Ridley was going to be a playable combatant in Super Smash Bros.

During his amazing trailer, he straight up killed Mega Man and Mario. Afterwards, he mocked Mario's Cappy spin animation that came about because of Super Mario Odyssey.

But let's stop and think about that for a second. Ridley pierced Mega Man in the trailer with his tail and killed him.

Mega Man. A Capcom character. As in, not owned by Nintendo.

While we currently do not have direct confirmation of this, it is heavily implied that someone at Capcom approved of this trailer happening. All for the sake of Ridley making his grand appearance.

Even as a huge Mega Man fan, it was epic to see and it was really cool of Capcom to allow that. They even seemed to acknowledge it over the Mega Man Twitter account.

Evidently, Capcom has been easy to work with. Nintendo appears to be treating Mega Man like a Nintendo character as Mario got the same treatment at Ridley's hands claws.

In fact, Polygon had reported Masahiro Sakurai's comments about working with Capcom to get Mega Man into the series during the development of Super Smash Bros. 4. "We approached Capcom with the idea and they were very favorable and open to it," he said.

The easiness of this situation may have also influenced Sakurai's decision to add Ryu from Street Fighter. It certainly helps that Ryu is also a gaming icon just like Mega Man.

This isn't the first time that Mega Man appeared and got beaten up in a cinematic trailer for another character in the Super Smash Bros. series. Mega Man fought alongside Mario, Rosalina, Link, Samus, and Kirby as they all had trouble dealing with Bowser Jr.'s unorthodox clown vehicle attacks.

In fact, Mega Man as a third party character has appeared in more cinematic Smash Bros. trailers than any other third party fighter. Even in his own trailer, he received quite the pounding before he started incorporating the powers of previously defeated Robot Masters.

Honestly, seeing so much of Mega Man is very refreshing considering the lull period after Keiji Inafune's departure from Capcom. Games like Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3 were subsequently cancelled after this transpired. Mega Man actually felt dead during that length of time.

Since Mega Man's appearance in Super Smash Bros. 4, Mega Man X was made playable in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2 were released, a Mega Max X Legacy Collection 1 + 2 is currently in development, and Mega Man 11 is slated for an October 2, 2018 release.

Despite Mega Man's "death" at the hands of Ridley, the sales of these games are not going to diminish any. All it did was set an awesome scene for Ridley. Nintendo even allowing this scene for Mario probably isn't something that would've been permitted a decade ago.

Capcom definitely deserves some credit for this epic trailer since they allowed what unfolded for the Blue Bomber. Not all companies would've done that.

Mega Man will be returning in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate along with the rest of the cast on December 7, 2018 when the game is launched.
