Simon Belmont rumor is suddenly looking extremely likely due to the reveal of Ridley and Solid Snake in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The parts of the rumor that were met with the most resistance have already come to pass...

You might recall a certain rumor that Ridley, Simon Belmont, the Ice Climbers, and the entirety of Super Smash Bros. 4's roster would be joining the then unnamed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Later on, the same individual behind the "leak" also claimed that Solid Snake would rejoin the cast and that there would be some sort of Minecraft representation (either an Assist Trophy or stage most likely).

At the time, the rumor sounded absolutely absurd to a lot of people. All previous character leaks that had Ridley listed for earlier titles ended up being completely and totally fake. Masahiro Sakurai himself even stated that Ridley would be too big and too overpowered to ever make playable.

Admittedly, the information on its own wouldn't have been worth posting if it was just text on a screen with no other evidence to back it. But this particular individual, Vergeben, had already shown some level of credibility.

It's worth noting that Vergben only explicitly claimed that Ridley would be announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at E3 2018. As far as I can tell, there was no statement that ever stated that Simon Belmont would also be announced exactly on that date.

While most were apprehensive about Ridley being on the list, there were also some that had some justified doubts about Simon Belmont and Solid Snake. Both of these characters were intellectual properties of Konami.

No reason has ever been given as to why Snake was originally cut going from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to Super Smash Bros. 4. In recent times, there has been a lot of backlash from communities towards Konami due to a falling out with Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series and Snake.

Notably, Mashiro Sakurai is known for being friends with Hideo Kojima. Snake was originally added to Super Smash Bros. Brawl because Kojima asked Sakurai if he could put him into Melee when it was too far into development.

Despite this, Snake was announced to be playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Not only this but Bomberman, now a property of Konami's after the merge with Hudson Soft, was also revealed to be an Assist Trophy.

Considering Vergeben's improving credibility and the support that Konami is obviously showing for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Simon Belmont is looking like a super strong candidate right now. While it is true that Masahiro Sakurai previously stated that he's "hoping [we] aren't expecting too many new fighters," he's probably still keeping a surprise or two hidden for a later date.

Finally, Just shortly before Nintendo's E3 Direct started on June 12th, Vergeben claimed that a Mario Party 11 with online will be announced and that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game had "Ultimate" in its subtitle. The game is, evidently, called this for a very good reason.

It seems like it would be completely impossible to accurately and consistently make some of the predictions that Vergeben was making. With Atom already being confirmed as the first character of Fighter Pack #3 for Injustice 2, who could've guessed that the second and third remaining slots would go to the Enchantress and... all four of the Ninja Turtles?

He predicted that Soul Calibur 6 would be announced at the PlayStation Experience. Though this event actually transpired two days prior to his specified date at the Video Game Awards, he was correctly able to name a newcomer, Grøh, who was revealed a month later.

It doesn't stop there, however. Vergeben also stated that Devil May Cry 5 and a Resident Evil 2 Remake were in development. Capcom revealed both of these titles at E3 2018.

The rumor that Dragon Ball FighterZ would be ported to the Nintendo Switch actually first came from Vergeben late last year. This was another announcement that came about during E3 2018.

One source had apparently told Vergeben that the Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition Season 3 roster was Sakura, Sagat, Cody, Blanka, "the Neo Shadaloo woman from Ed's story with the bo staff weapon," and "The President." We now know that the woman with the bo staff is Falke and the president character is most likely G.

Vergeben wasn't the first to report the information for Street Fighter 5, however. That honor belongs to Flowtron. Someone could easily incorporate this information into a leak post to make their other statements seem more plausible.

Some of Vergeben's other early rumors ended up not coming to pass. For example, in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, he revealed that Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Green Goblin, Wolverine, Cyclops, Psylocke, Magneto, Storm, Deadpool, Doctor Doom, Daredevil, Asura, Lady, Gill, Rashid, Captain Commando, Nina, Deis, Regina, Gene, Vergil, Akuma, and Apollo Justice would be coming as DLC. There was also going to be a four player 2v2 mode.

Who knows what was ever planned for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. It's entirely possible that these features were planned at one point, but the terrible reception to the release halted the execution.

Vergeben also claimed that sources informed him about Goku Black being in his Super Saiyan Rosé form, Beerus and Hit were launch characters, and that Broly, Base form Goku, Base form Vegeta, Bardock, Raditz, and Zarbon would make an appearance at some point as far as Dragon Ball FighterZ was concerned.

By now, we've already seen the release of Bardock and Broly as DLC characters while data mining suggests that Base Form Goku and Base Form Vegeta are indeed coming. There's been no evidence to support Raditz or Zarbon's appearance, however.

Other rumors include a Dark Souls Remastered for the Nintendo Switch that was revealed at the January Direct, Mother 3 localized, Injustice 2 port for the Nintendo Switch, the Jump Force game that was revealed at E3 2018, and more.
