GameCube controllers will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch

All Smash Amiibos compatible as well

Super Smash Bros. has had plenty of incredible successes over the years, but no chapter over the franchise's storied history has ever been quite like the one that saw Melee come out on the Nintendo GameCube.

The Melee era has a special novelty about it as many players in the scene call back to the GameCube iteration as their starting grounds.

Pair this with the competitive scene's mass return to the second Smash title after disappointment with Brawl and you can see why it has been particularly immortalized in Smash history.

One of the results of this manifests in the fact that many players still use the GameCube controller to play SSB, and Nintendo's backwards compatibility over the years has allowed those with a GCN controller to continue to use it.

Though we're now three consoles removed from the indigo cube of the early 2000's, series creator Masahiro Sakurai announced today that the Switch's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would support the old school controllers.

Amiibo support is maximized as well, as Sakurai noted that all previous Smash Bros. Amiibos would work with Ultimate. Click the image below to see the announcements for both the GameCube controller and the Amiibos.
