Dead or Alive 6 revealed
Coming early 2019
More big fighting game news this morning as Koei Tecmo has revealed Dead or Alive 6.
The new title is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam, making it the first installment of the Dead or Alive series to be developed on current-gen technology.
Koei Tecmo has released a trailer to showcase the upcoming fighting game. In it, we see returning characters Kasumi, Hayabusa, Jann Lee, Zack, Hayate and Helena, as well as what appears to be a brand new character.
Much of what we know from the Dead or Alive series seems to still be intact in Dead or Alive 6. Stage interactions make their return and now seem to involve background character participation.
We also see that super moves have been brought back and still retain their cinematic quality. From the looks of it, supers still need to be charged mid-combo.
There also appears to be a blood splatter effect that can be seen on-screen when certain hits land. This might just be an added effect for the trailer, however.
Dead or Alive 6 is expected to drop early 2019.

This game's predecessor, Dead or Alive 5, was first released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC back in September of 2012. It saw a PS Vita version as well in March 2013 and renamed to Dead or Alive 5 Plus.
Dead or Alive 5 saw multiple updates during its lifespan -- both balance patches and new versions of the game that added more content. in September of 2013 Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate launched adding new modes and features from Dead or Alive 5 Plus, as well as new characters, stages, and modes.
Simultaneously, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters was released, which was a free-to-play version of Ultimate on PlayStation 3 that gave players access to four playable characters and the online mode, with additional characters and content unlockable through purchases.
The most recent iteration of the game is Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. Seeing its release back in February 2015, the update was released digitally on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, then later came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in physical form. Dead or Alive boss Raidou was added to the roster, this time as a cyborg, along with a new female character named Honoka.
It's been roughly six years since we've seen an all new Dead or Alive title, and it looks like the series is back and better than ever with Dead or Alive 6.
