Rumor: Isabelle from Animal Crossing a playable newcomer in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Unknown if she offers a brand new moveset or is an Echo Fighter of the Villager

We got a rather substantial information dump about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during Nintendo's E3 2018 conference. The draw of the game is that every fighter that has ever been playable will be returning.

Masahiro Sakurai commented that he was kind of hoping we weren't expecting too many newcomers this time as the development team ensured that the return of the veterans was the number one priority. Despite this, there have easily been hundreds of leaks and rumors that have made some rather bold predictions. Most of these are obviously fake.

One prominent leaker — Vergeben on Gamefaqs and Reddit — has proven himself to be more reliable than most would have expected. In the eyes of many, the prediction that Ridley was playable was all the "proof" that was needed in order to disconfirm Vergeben's statements as it was always believed that Ridley would always be too big to be playable.

Recently, Vergeben stated that he was going to simply let Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's reveals play out without him revealing additional information. Now, Vergeben is claiming that any leak list that doesn't contain Simon Belmont and Isabelle is fake. Since Vergeben didn't feel the need to elaborate on "Isabelle," we assume this is referring to Isabelle from the Animal Crossing series.

Even Vergeben noted the irony of this statement. With this comment, we'll more than likely see most future lists have these two characters listed. Vergeben is currently unaware if Isabelle is a completely new combatant or an Echo Fighter.

There's no doubt that Isabelle is an extremely popular Animal Crossing character among the fan base. This dog secretary might even be the most popular Animal Crossing character of all, aside from maybe the Villager avatar. This makes this prediction at least somewhat plausible.

On June 14, 2015, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were released as DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. 4. Alongside them, parts for an Isabelle costume were also made available for the Mii Fighters — notably, the Inkling costume was also made available for the Mii Fighters.

Previously in Super Smash Bros. 4, Isabelle was an assist trophy that provided fruit — healing — to the player that summoned her. As of this moment, nobody has been able to spot Isabelle as an assist trophy in the footage that we've seen for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

What's particularly interesting is the fact that Masahiro Sakurai at one point stated that Animal Crossing characters weren't really suited for battle. This was the reason why there were no Animal Crossing characters playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Obviously Sakurai has been known to change his mind about statements he's made in the past. Villager became a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Ridley will be usable in Smash Ultimate despite echoing the sentiment that Ridley was too big.

In the hours leading up to the big reveal, Vergeben correctly stated that the subtitle for the game was "Ultimate." Vergeben also claimed that Snake and Ice Climbers would be making their grand return.

Supposedly, there are still "at least a half dozen characters still to be revealed." If Vergeben is to be believed, then Simon Belmont is among them. He also mentioned that Minecraft will be getting some sort of representation — most likely as an assist trophy or stage.

This individual does have a fairly good track record. He made bold predictions that the Ninja Turtles would be DLC for Injustice 2, Soul Calibur 6 would be announced, Base Form Goku and Base Form Vegeta would eventually join the roster of Dragon Ball FighterZ and the game would get a Nintendo Switch release, among many other predictions that ended up coming true.

Like with any leaker, his claims haven't been 100% accurate. Some of his information about Season 1 DLC for Dragon Ball FighterZ, DLC for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and Street Fighter 5 Season 3 ended up being false. Given, things tend to change — especially for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Interestingly enough, Vergeben also recently made some statements about Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition's Season 4 roster. We'll just have to wait and see about the validity of those comments too.

In any event, Vergeben declared that the source of the information that mentioned Isabelle to him has been reliable thus far. Most likely, he's referring to the person who told him about Ridley, Snake, and Ice Climbers. As with any leaks or rumors, it's best to always take them with a grain of salt.
