EVO Japan is confirmed to be returning for its second year in 2019 as announced by the EVO Twitter account tonight. The event next year will be taking place from February 15th through 17th, 2019 in a new location, Fukuoka, Japan.

More details, likely pertaining to game selection, venue and entrant requirements, are slated to be announced at EVO 2018 in just under a month at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada according to their announcement.

The inaugural EVO Japan this year saw very high attendance numbers, over 2,000 entrants for Street Fighter 5 and over 1,100 for both Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd, and a second year was promised at the end of the tournament though some financial problems put its future in question.

EVO Japan 2018 lost 124 million yen, just over $1.13 million, likely due to needing to change venues and having a free entry because of Japan's strict anti-gambling laws, so it's encouraging to see heads of EVO continuing their support of growing the fighting game scene overseas.

It's also worth pointing out that Fukuoka sits on Japan's Southernmost major island, Kyushu, and it is over 670 miles (1080 km) from Tokyo though the organizers say that "the new location and plans will be worth it" and will "assist if you have any travel inquiries."
