Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition is officially here. The large update to Capcom's mainstay fighting title brings new modes, V-Trigger 2s for everyone on the roster, a fresh UI, and more.

For those who already own a copy of Street Fighter 5, the Arcade Edition update is free and can be downloaded now. This will implement the character balance changes, and will grant you access to everything mentioned in this story (outside of DLC characters).

If you're picking up Arcade Edition as a standalone title, you can do so for $39.99 USD. The game comes in both physical and digital versions, and you'll get the full Street Fighter 5 game, the AE update, and a DLC code for all of Season 1 and Season 2's DLC fighters.

Not only is today the launch of Arcade Edition, but we're also seeing the official start of Street Fighter 5 Season 3. This year, Sakura, Blanka, Falke, Cody, G, and Sagat enter the fray as DLC.

To kick off the season, Sakura is the first to join the battle. She is also available for purchase starting today.

There is a lot to dig into with Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, so for everything you need to know about the update, be sure to hit the jump.

Arcade Mode

The highly anticipated Arcade Mode makes its debut in Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition. Players can battle through six different themed paths that represent the main titles in the Street Fighter franchise: Street Fighter, Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter 3, Street Fighter 4, and Street Fighter 5.

Each of these paths contains characters faithful to the respective title, with the exception of characters that are meant to represent others who aren't currently in Street Fighter 5 -- Laura represents Sean in Street Fighter 3, for example.

As you work your way through the Arcade paths, you'll earn a score based on performance. Scores will be displayed on a leaderboard, and the highest earners will be rewarded with unique titles.

Increasing your score can be done by finishing your opponents quickly, performing special moves such as a Crush Counter, getting a Perfect, etc. You can also complete the barrel-breaking bonus stage to get an even higher score.

There are over 200 ending images that you can unlock by completing Arcade mode paths with different characters. These come in the form of both character story images and all-new, custom illustrations.

Extra Battle

Extra Battle Mode brings another set of challenges into the fold. Players are given the opportunity to earn special costumes and titles by completing specific challenges each month.

Each challenge must be completed in the date range specified, and if you miss that window, you won't be able to get the alternate outfit. Each costume challenge will net you a special icon when completed, and collecting all four icons will grant you the outfit.

If you complete the challenges again afterwards, you will receive a Bonus Reward.

Capcom released the Extra Battle schedules for the first month of Arcade Edition. You can find them below.

In addition to the costume missions, Special Challenges are scattered throughout the year and reward players with special titles. The first is for a title called "Dark Revenger."

These challenges are not to be confused with the weekly missions, which are still a part of Street Fighter 5 now that Arcade Edition is here and still reward Fight Money.

Team Battle

Team Battle also enters the ring as another new mode for fans to enjoy. With this mode, squads of up to five players are pit against each other in a race to victory.

There are two different settings for this mode: Elimination and Best of Series.

In Elimination, the first team to defeat all of the opposing players wins. The Best of Series sees each team member matched up against their corresponding opponent until one team wins the majority of the matches.

Both team game types allow you to alter specific preferences to make things more interesting. Winning players can retain EX meter, regain health, and more with these options.

Team Battle isn't all about teams, though. Players can join up with a friend to choose their own teams and see who can win in a 3v3 Elimination match, which the blog notes is "similar to past Capcom crossover titles."

V-Trigger 2

On top of the added modes, every character in the game has received a second V-Trigger. You can pick your poison before the match starts and the different triggers will give everyone new abilities and different options in battle.

Sakura, Season 3's first DLC character, will also have a second V-Trigger. Going forward, two Triggers will be the standard, so we can expect the same for the remaining DLC characters this year and beyond.

In Training Mode, you will find a "Version Select" option that allows a quick switch between V-Triggers.

You can check out a full breakdown of every V-Trigger 2 in the video below.

Sakura / Season 3

The release of Arcade Edition also marks the start of Street Fighter 5's third season. With that, we have Sakura joining the battle today.

You can purchase Sakura in one of two ways: as a standalone character or the Season 3 Character Pass.

Buying her individually will run you $5.99 USD or you can pick her up for 100,000 Fight Money. If you'd rather get access to all of Season 3's DLC characters, you can opt to purchase the character pass.

Doing so will run you $29.99 USD, and you will acquire all six of this year's characters (as they are released), as well as each one's Battle Costume and colors 3-10 for their default and Battle costumes.

Alongside Sakura, we'll be seeing the release of her remade Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage. Past stage pricing indicates that this new backdrop will run you $3.99 USD.

If you want to try out Sakura before spending money (real or Fight Money), you can do so for the first week of AE's launch. From January 16th up until 10 a.m. PDT on January 23rd, a free trial that allows you to play Sakura in all modes will be available.

Arcade Edition will also feature a Gallery Mode. Here, you will be able to view the 200+ Arcade Mode endings.

The Sound option will allow you to listen to stage background music, character themes, and DLC background music, and you will also be able to view movies like Arcade Edition's cinematic opening video in this mode.
