As the internet sat in anticipation of official word on the first Nintendo Direct presentation of the year, the company pulled a fast one on everyone (literally) and broadcast a "Nintendo Direct Mini" earlier this morning.

The nearly 15 minute showcase featured announcements of things to come, as one might expect from such a stream, and though there were no Smash Bros.-related reveals, we did get some interesting stuff.

Pokkén Tournament DX on the Nintendo Switch is getting two new DLC characters. Aegislash and Blastoise are both entering the ring, as well as new support Pokemon.

These DLC fighters are a part of the Pokkén Tournament DX Battle Pack and will be released in two waves. Wave 1 includes Aegislash and support Pokemon Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu.

Wave 2 features Blastoise and supports Mew and Celebi. The Battle Pack is available for purchase now, and will also include avatar items, which you will gain access to upon buying.

Wave 1 is set for release on January 31st, and Wave 2 will follow on March 23rd.

Aegislash is a Steel / Ghost-type Pokemon. With the ability to switch between both a sword and shield, this new contender will bring strong offense and defense to the table.

One of the original Kanto starters, Blastoise is a water-type Pokemon that really needs no introduction. Today's trailer didn't provide any footage of this character, however, considering his move set has included Hydro Pump and Skull Bash in the past, we'll likely see a mix or ranged attacks and moves that move in quickly.

You can view the trailer at about 1:25 in the video below.
