Player two 'rematch' menu reportedly spotted in Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition

RIP in peace, thumbs up

As much as I'd like to take credit for the banner, (there probably isn't better pop culture imagery for this) BornFree did it first.

Traditionally after a Versus Mode bout, both player one and player two have the choice to select if they want to rematch or head back to the character select screen. In 2016's Street Fighter 5, player one solely holds the power of post-fight menu control, which led to tournament players having to give an unofficial thumbs up to clarify that both combatants were ready to continue.

Normally something like this wouldn't really be worth an article all on its own, but the culture and discussion that blown up around the infamous Street Fighter 5 thumbs up have become prevalent to the point of meme status.

Said meme may be going away after two years, as Reddit user dick_dickerson2004 has apparently (and accidentally) gotten hold of an early copy of the upcoming Arcade Edition, and has posted a screen shot showing a player two rematch menu.

While we did see dickerson's nearly six minute video of apparent Arcade Edition gameplay yesterday, redditors have been spamming his thread with requests for answers and images from the upcoming patch.

One of the subsequent images posted was of the post fight menu screen, and it appears as though Capcom has finally added a menu for player two:

While much of the community will likely be responding to this with a slow clap, I personally will continue to throw out a thumbs up after tournament matches lest we forget our SF5 cultural roots.

Arcade Edition drops in nine days on January 16th. Let us know how excited for the update/sad to see the thumbs up go in the comments below.

Special thanks to HiFight for pointing this out.
