Bayani: Kanino Ka Kakampi?! is a new indie fighter in development by Ranida Games which is inspired by the real history, culture and mythology of the Philippines thrown into a futuristic setting, and it currently has a KickStarter campaign ongoing to acquire additional funding.

The new fighting game has reportedly been in development since 2016, and the team is aiming for a Steam Early Access release in the first quarter of 2019 even if Bayani doesn't get fully funded on KickStarter.

Bayani is the Filipino term for hero and is said to use simplified inputs to perform special moves similarly to other recent fighting games like Blade Strangers and Rising Thunder. Marvel vs. Capcom and fighting game legend Ryan 'Filipino Champ' Ramirez has also been brought onto the project as a consultant to make sure that the gameplay is appealing for casual and hardcore crowds — he even has a video going through the demo with the developers on his Facebook page.

"To all of the fans who have been supporting me throughout the entire 10 year pro career that I've had, please support this game and give it a chance," says FilipinoChamp in Bayani's KickStarter video. "You guys will definitely not be disappointed."

The story and characters are based on real historical figures from the Philippine Revolution who have been stylized with a mix of anime, magic and technology in the year of 8096 — where the real revolution began in 1896.

The KickStarter campaign for Bayani will end of December 30 and is asking for just under $15,000 USD where it currently sits at just under $6,300 of funding. A demo of the game is available for all backers, and you can take a look at the current characters and their inspirations in the gallery below plus the game's campaign trailer after the jump.
