Official Kage trailer and character breakdown for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition

Evil-er Ryu?

Kage's Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition trailer has been officially revealed by Capcom. Kage, meaning "shadow," is said to be the embodiment of the Satsui and was born out of humanity's obsession with power.

To differentiate him from the Evil Ryu of Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Kage has a very devil-like appearance. He has sharp fangs protruding from his mouth, horns, red irises inside of blackened eyes, and energy burns on his torso.

V-Trigger 1 allows Kage to teleport while airborne. He is actually permitted to extend combos this way. These can be performed while grounded too.

V-Trigger 2 gives Kage access to a ground pound type of attack. Essentially, think of this as Akuma's ground pound ender that comes after his V-Trigger 1 Dragon Punches, but add a teleport before it.

He has a 180 degree Hurricane Kick, a fireball, a Dragon Punch, Evil Ryu's axe kick (which can extend grounded combos), and a red fireball. Kage was also shown performing a parry-like action that is similar to Akuma's V-Skill.

As expected, he appears to also have access to Akuma's Raging Demon except it is more violent looking. He has 900 stamina and 950 stun.

Kage's Specials

Kage's grounded fireball actually does not create a traditional projectile. Like Akuma, he has an airborne version except it travels purely horizontally. Please note that the airborne version can only be used during forward jumps.

His "Shakunetsu Hadoken" or Red Fireball is functionally like Akuma's version of the special technique. It will likely have multiple points of durability when dealing with other projectiles.

The Dragon Punch is similar to other fighters' version of the attack. He came from Ryu, so it's exactly what you'd expect.

Kage's Hurricane Kick is called the "Kurekijin." It only appears to spin about 180 degrees. From what we saw in the trailer, it looks like the EX version launches opponents for a juggle.

Just like Evil Ryu, Kage has access to the infamous axe kick. We've seen a number of combos extended through the usage of this move during gameplay.

Kage's V-System

The V-Skill is called the "Senha Kassatsu." When used, Kage will lunge forward towards the opponent with a powerful strike. It can be granted armored properties through charging the attack.

His V-Trigger 1 requires two bars of V-Gauge in order to activate. This unlocks Akuma's teleport move which can be activated by pressing HP+HK.

Interestingly enough, Kage can utilize this teleport both while grounded and while airborne. This improves his mix ups and combo options.

While V-Trigger 1 is active, his V-Skill is improved. Kage will only crumple the opponent with the fully charged version while in this powered up state.

V-Trigger 2 unlocks Misogi. By pressing HP + HK, Kage will teleport above the opponent and strike with a falling ground pound. Even his sweep can be cancelled into this unique attack.

Kage's Critical Arts

Like Akuma, Kage has access to two Critical Arts. The one that's most iconic to the theme of the Satsui No Hado is only available while V-Trigger 2 is active.

Interestingly enough, the blog stats that Kage is permitted to end certain combos with this technique.

As for the Critical Art that he's always armed with, it is the Metsu Shoryuken. This is an incredibly strong version of the Dragon Punch that looks way more violent looking.

Since Ryu has officially overcame the Satsui No Hado during the events of "A Shadow Falls," Kage is not simply taking over Ryu's body. This entity has now found a way to manifest itself into a physical form.

It seems that Kage seeks to prove that Ryu is nothing without him. He apparently intends to do this by challenging Akuma and Sagat — rivals of Ryu.

Kage is the first character of the new upcoming season and is now available today on the PlayStation 4 and Steam for $5.99 or 100,000 Fight Money.

The blog notes that Capcom is "doing things differently this year." We'll just have to see what that means later.
