The official Street Fighter 5 Twitter account just changed their profile picture and the announcement hint is... nothing?

We're not sure what to make of this one

Capcom Cup 2018 has officially begun and we are currently seeing the event's Last Chance Qualifier event run its course. There have already been a number of exciting Street Fighter 5 matches, and there's still much more to come.

Fans are anticipating a major reveal for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition this weekend, with all eyes currently on Sunday finals. It looks like the official Street Fighter Twitter account may already be getting things started, albeit a little differently than we've seen previously.

In the past, the game's Twitter page has changed up their profile picture and sometimes banner to tease the next big reveal. Most times we're given a look at the SF5 logo with a background that applies to the upcoming character reveal — for example, a purple backdrop with waves of Psycho Power to signify the announcement of Falke.

The Twitter account changed their profile picture today, but the potential hint here is... much more cryptic. What we're seeing now is the Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition logo with a blank background.

While this could simply be the account updating their profile picture with a clean slate, traditionally these character reveal hints are sent out a couple of days before the big unveiling. The Street Fighter Twitter account changing their main picture on day one of Capcom Cup 2018? Yeah, that reeks of a hint at what's to come.

Just yesterday, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono sent out one of his own famous social media hints letting fans know that he and his Blanka toy will be at Capcom Cup and that "Blanka's pocket has got everything arranged! ;P" It's pretty clear that an announcement is happening at some point this weekend, but what and when remains a mystery.

As for the profile picture update hint, we're not sure what to make of it. A blank white background with the Arcade Edition logo is about as vague as it gets.

Back at Capcom Cup 2017, the company announced Sakura as the first DLC character in Season 3. They quickly followed that reveal up by pulling the curtain back on the entire Season 3 character line up, announcing Blanka, Falke, Cody, G, and Sagat as well by way of the Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition intro trailer.

Showing the full line up of characters for the next season was likely a response to the negative feedback received from fans for keeping the characters' identities hidden until close to their release while simultaneously asking players to purchase a season pass — people didn't want to buy a full season pass without knowing its contents.

Perhaps we'll see the entirety of Street Fighter 5 Season 4's DLC line up unveiled this weekend. We'll just have to wait for the reveals to actually take place to find out.

Do you think the profile picture update is hinting at something? And if so, what? Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks to Captain_Fire_Feet and Saltlevelsmax for mentioning this.
