Extending an attack's range via slide does seem useful

Since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate only recently released officially, the community is still in the discovery phase for the game. Seeing as how we have 74 characters at launch (76 if you count the Pokémon Trainer as three separate entities), there's a lot to unpack.

You might remember Izaw as a talented Link player and lab monster for the Super Smash Bros. series. He recently uploaded a video that demonstrates the new recent discovery of the "pivot cancel" technique by Chiroz.

One of the new features of the latest entry to the series is the ability to perform any grounded attack from a dash. This includes jabs, tilts, smash attacks, and specials.

When this is done, you'll lose the momentum from the dash. Your character will essentially stop to perform the attack. However, the pivot cancel adds a bit of a slide that essentially extends the range of your chosen option.

In order to pull this off, you need to be in the run animation rather than the initial dash portion. Pivot in the opposite direction that your character is running towards by flicking the control stick in the other direction. Then, press the C-Stick back in the original direction.

Not only can this be used in approaches, but it also makes combos even scarier. Here's one that was demonstrated by Izaw with Sheik:
