Nintendo knew that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was going to be their biggest title of 2018, and the numbers appear to have backed them up in that regard since it's currently smashing sales records across the globe.

We now know that Smash Ultimate sold over 1,220,535 retail copies in its first three days on the market in Japan between December 7 and 9 according to the latest Media Create sales charts which does not include digital sales.

That strong of a launch made it the best selling release for the Smash franchise as a whole in its home country, and it even managed to become the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game of all time beating out titles like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.

The Switch also managed to sell 281,222 units in Japan last week alone which is more than double the numbers of the week prior though PlayStation 4 saw a jump in sales over five times that of the previous period.

Japan isn't the only place Smash Ultimate has been topping charts and breaking records, as the title also managed to top the United Kingdom's sales charts plus had the strongest launch for a Switch title and the series to date.

Those looking for figures from the United States will likely need to wait until the end of the month for the NPD numbers to be released, so we'll need to wait and see just how well Super Smash Bros. Ultimate did in its biggest market. You can check out the full top 10 sales charts for Japan and the UK after the jump.
