Perfect shield makes a perfect clip

Any fighting game that has Ryu, Ken, and some type of parry mechanic is going to see a recreation of EVO Moment #37. We've seen the legendary play re-done in a slew of different fighting titles, and we've even seen it performed in both Street Fighter 3 Third Strike and Street Fighter 5 simultaneously and one-handed before.

With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's release today, fans all over the globe are booting up their Nintendo Switch consoles and diving deep into the highly anticipated crossover fighter. Many are in training mode right now trying to discover the best tech they can, and one person already found a way to add another EVO Moment 37 reenactment to the list.

Twitter user rebaken7 shared a clip early this morning showing the classic moment between CYG|Daigo Umehara and FOX|Justin Wong being played out in Smash Bros. Ultimate. With Ken being a playable character in-game and the perfect shield mechanic acting as a parry, a very close recreation can be achieved here.

In this clip, Fox takes the place of Chun-Li as he fires off his rapid kicks at Ken. The fiery Shoto parries several of the kicks, jumps up for the follow up combo, then closes it out with his Final Smash — which in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the Shippuu-Jinrai-Kyaku and the same super used in EVO Moment #37.

The inkling (no pun intended) of being able to possibly make EVO Moment #37 happen in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was first brought up back in August when we spotted a clip from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Arcadian Teen Tournament. Ness player Ryon was pinned against the wall by Milton's Corrin and managed to perfect shield multiple attacks which looked somewhat like the start of the EVO moment.

Now, the prospect of EVO Moment #37 in Smash Bros. is fully realized, and you can check it out below.
