Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters could potentially be unlocked early with Amiibo according to Best Buy listings
Time to dust off that Amiibo collection
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster looks absolutely massive considering that every character that's ever been playable in the series is returning. We'll also be able to play as an Inkling, Daisy, Ridley, Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, Chrom, Dark Samus, and King K. Rool.
Despite this, the game's base roster will actually be comparably tiny. Masahiro Sakurai has already informed us that the game "may" only start us off with the roster that was initially present in the original Super Smash Bros. 64 game — whether or not this includes the unlockable fighters in that game is currently unknown.
In other words, there will be over 60 characters to unlock. The process for doing this has been apparently streamlined to make this easier.
According to some Best Buy listings, one method may revolve around the game's Amiibo functionality. Scanning an Amiibo might make characters available as a quicker alternative to the normal process behind making them playable.
Inkling, Wolf, and Ridley will be the first Amiibo to be released alongside the game on December 7, 2018. Note that these particular Amiibo are priced at $15.99 USD rather than the previous cost of $12.99.
Remember that Amiibo designed for other games will work for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate too. If you're like me, then you'll probably be more interested in unlocking the characters through the other method. This normal option has yet to be revealed.
Still, if you've been dying to play as Ridley and King K. Rool after years of them being disconfirmed as playable fighters, you might want to dive right into their gameplay immediately.
