Blizzard might want Diablo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate if given the choice

Might be even more unlikely than Ridley ever was...

While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a varied cast of characters, some might say that fighters like Snake, Bayonetta, Simon Belmont, and Richter Belmont clashes with the rest of the roster. Still, they'd have nothing on Blizzard's Diablo if he were ever added into the game...

Game Informer recently had an opportunity to sit down with Blizzard and ask them who they'd want added into Super Smash Bros. if given the choice. Personally, my first choice would probably be an Overwatch character as someone like Tracer would probably fit in with Nintendo's roster. This is not the route that Blizzard went with.

"I'd love to have Diablo," said Blizzard senior producer Pete Stilwell after laughing. "That to me is the immediate one. Then if we had over time, eventually the heroes, go through all of them... or you could go really awesome and only have Deckard Cain."

Notably, Joshua Wittge and Matt Cederquist — Blizzard PR manager and associate producer respectively — did not appear to have any reservations about the idea and even added to the discussion. Cederquist even appeared to think that Nintendo villains like Bowser and Pig Ganon would fit into the Diablo universe as bosses.

While it is true that Ridley of the Metroid series was previously perceived as being too big and too overpowered to become playable in the Super Smash Bros. series before actually being announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Diablo might have additional hurdles that would be necessary to overcome.

According to Game Informer, the upcoming Diablo 3 port to the Nintendo Switch marks the first time that Blizzard and Nintendo have worked together in nearly 20 years. Diablo 3 is scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch in Fall 2018. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will released on December 7, 2018; we should know the game's entire roster before that date.
