CaptainZack: I’ve felt like quitting many times due to the stress and depression from the scene... thankfully I have my family and friends for support

The young professional player also talks about his hopes for Bayonetta in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and his plans for competing

Last time in my interview with CaptainZack, he talked about some of the issues that arises when playing Bayonetta at tournaments. We got a good glimpse of these problems during EVO 2018's top eight when the crowd began booing Bayonetta players.

As one might imagine, this type of treatment over a few years could potentially make someone consider switching characters or just quit competing altogether. I decided to ask CaptainZack if he's ever considered these options.

During this second part, CaptainZack fortunately reveals that he has maintained support from his family and friends. It's clear that there is some stress associated with the path that CaptainZack has chosen. It's good to have support to lean on — especially at the age of 16.

I also decide to ask him about his thoughts regarding Bayonetta in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You might be surprised to hear that he's actually hopeful for some — reasonable, but necessary — nerfs.

The way things are worded, CaptainZack intends on playing Bayonetta even if she isn't the best. CaptainZack was one of the people that actually voted for her inclusion in the first place. Notably, CaptainZack also has his eye on two other characters that did not appear in Super Smash Bros. 4.

This is the second and final part of the interview. Hit the jump to check it out!

AdaptiveTrigger: Why do you play Bayonetta in Super Smash Bros. 4?

CaptainZack: She's simply my favorite video game character. I played her because I voted for her and I got her in the game.

AdaptiveTrigger: If Bayonetta weren’t in the game, who would you be playing as? Who are your other secondaries?

CaptainZack: I'd probably play Peach and Rosalina. They’re my secondaries and they're pretty competitively viable as dual/solo mains.

AdaptiveTrigger: Have you ever felt like playing a different character or stop competing altogether as a result of all the controversy that comes with playing Bayonetta?

CaptainZack: I’ve felt like quitting many times due to the stress and depression from the scene. It's very tough to go through, but thankfully I have my family and friends to support me.

AdaptiveTrigger: Unconfirmed reports indicate that Masahiro Sakurai was shaking his head and writing a note when he saw MKLeo’s Bayonetta combo on Plup during the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational. Supposedly, people were booing there too.

Thoughts on this?

CaptainZack: Well, I just hope Bayonetta has two up specials in the final build ha ha.

On a more serious note, I hope Sakurai makes the necessary changes and nerfs to Bayonetta so people can find less reasons to complain about her frustrating kit. People are always gonna boo what they disapprove of.

AdaptiveTrigger: What are your hopes in regards to Bayonetta in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

CaptainZack: I just hope people can respect her. I love her a lot, so seeing so many people hate her makes me sad.

AdaptiveTrigger: Can we expect you to become a competitive player in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate too?

Still plan on maining Bayonetta? Any interest in any other characters, if only for fun?

CaptainZack: Yes! I plan on putting a lot of effort into Ultimate. I really want to show that I deserve my spot among all the Smash legends.

I plan on using Bayonetta, Daisy, and Wolf! I pretty much got every character I wanted in Smash, except Bayonetta's sidekick Jeanne ha ha.

AdaptiveTrigger: Thanks for your time. Any last thoughts or shout outs you’d like to make?

CaptainZack: I just want to thank my friends, family, and everyone who took the time to read this. Not much else!
