A psycho powered grand finals, Shenron summons, a new Melee champion, double perfects and more: EVO 2018 highlights

This was one crazy weekend

EVO 2018 wrapped up just under one day ago and had some wild announcements coming from Capcom and Bandai Namco among others, but at the end of the day people showed up for the biggest fighting game competition in the world.

Five games received top billing for Sunday finals mainstage spots in Las Vegas, Nevada: Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ and finishing up with Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition.

Between those five games alone, there were almost too many hype moments and awesome combos or shows of composure to count, but we're here to try and show off the best moments from the end of EVO 2018.

From Mouz|Problem X to TSM|Leffen taking his first EVO championship, the biggest fighting game event in the world was filled to burst with new talent and old coming together to duke it out.

ITS|Lil Majin brought the hype from the start of Tekken 7 top 8 as America's last hope, and he did not disappoint taking on FOX|JDCR. Just a few hours later, FOX|SonicFox and CO|Go1 would square off in Dragon Ball FighterZ at the highest levels once again — and Shenron may have even made one or two appearances.

Let's start things off with the very end of the night where Problem X would face FOX|Tokido in Grand Finals of Street Fighter 5, and though Tokido would mount a reset, Problem X would not be so easily shaken including one of the cleanest Bison dashes in the game's history.

Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition

Rise|Smug seems to have FD|Haitani on the ropes, but the Akuma player has a Raging Demon up his sleeve.

RB|SnakeEyez deals with FD|Fujimura's Fuma Shuriken with ease, but the Ibuki player would show off that her kunai are faster than fireballs.

Xyzzy gets CYG|Daigo Umehara to the corner and tries to get the Street Fighter veteran to bite on his throw baits

Gachikun tries to rush down The Cool Kid93's Abigail, but it goes to show why you should never chase down a glowing giant.

The Cool Kid93 catches RB|Luffy trying to use his heavy kick with the V-Trigger freeze into Critical Art.

Luffy was melting Cool Kid93's health bar until Abigail got V-Trigger and took it the other way even going so far as parrying Nadeshiko out of the air.

Problem X and CYG|Fuudo's winners finals match came down to final game, final round though at that point Problem X appears to become a mind reader.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Leffen finishes the job and takes the Melee crown on winners' side from Alliance|Armada.

Tekken 7

ITS|Lil Majin was the crowd favorite from Tekken 7's top 8 with his King play squaring up with FOX|JDCR.

Lil Majin looked poised to take it over JDCR, but the Korean master turned things around with a massive life difference comeback with only two seconds to spare.

JDCR and Lil Majin came down to the final game, final round where the American underdog would finish the job in perhaps the best set of top 8... and it was the first one to be played.

Lil Majin went on to face UYU|Qudans in losers final where the King player again looked to be firing on all cylinders starting the second round with a perfect followed by... another perfect.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

W2W|KnowKami looks to be down for the count against YSM|Kubo, but the lone Goku Black gets back up and pulls off the comeback thanks to great reads and better reactions.

CO|Go1 has been one to collect all of the Dragon Balls and summon Shenron in Dragon Ball FighterZ tournaments, and here he does it against FOX|SonicFox in winners finals at EVO bringing his Vegeta back to full health.

SonicFox would send Go1 to losers bracket in winners finals but the two would fittingly square off again in grand finals where Go1 would complete the reset 3-0. SonicFox wasn't going to take that lying down though...
